West High School is a public high school in Salt Lake City, Utah, operated by the Salt Lake City School District. Founded in 1890 as one of Utah’s oldest public high schools, it has occupied a historic 1922 building on Union Square and broke ground on a new building in March 2026. West has been an International Baccalaureate World School since 1984, when it became the first school in Utah to offer the IB Diploma Programme; it now also offers the IB Career-related Programme, Advanced Placement courses, Career and Technical Education, Concurrent Enrollment, AVID, and an Extended Learning Program that adds a smaller number of grade 7 and 8 students alongside the traditional grade 9 through 12 program. Enrollment was about 2,503 students in the 2024-25 school year. The school’s mascot is the Panthers, and its colors are red and black. West holds a GreatSchools rating of 5 out of 10 and sits near the Capitol Hill and Guadalupe neighborhoods just west of downtown Salt Lake City.
