Salt Lake Center for Science Education

Salt Lake Center for Science Education, known as SLCSE, is a STEM-focused public charter high school located at 1400 W Goodwin Ave in the Rose Park neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah. It is chartered through the Salt Lake City School District but operates as its own independent charter school rather than as a district-run school, and it occupies the building of the former Northwest Middle School. Established in 2008, SLCSE currently serves grades 9-12 after its board approved a new SLCSE-Bryant STEM partnership that moved the school’s 7th and 8th grade track to Bryant Middle School. Led by principal Britnie Powell, SLCSE enrolled 368 students in the 2024-2025 school year with a student-teacher ratio of about 17 to 1. The school emphasizes hands-on, experiential science education, offering Advanced Placement courses, a Gifted and Talented program, career and technical education, partnered laboratory work with the University of Utah, and a student-run weekly community food pantry.
